Father Antonio Margil de Jesus

300 pages- In Search of a Saint Father Antonio Margil de Jesus
This non-sectarian, one-of-a-kind book on the famous and universally loved Fr. Antonio Margil de Jesus was personally researched by the author in Mexico from Vera Cruz to Celia high in the mountains, Guatemala including Antigua, Costa Rica and its jungles, plus other regions of Central America, and Texas. It is therefore loaded with new information and pictures never shown before. No other writer has ever taken the effort, time and paid the many thousands of dollars to do this kind of research. This new book takes a close look at Margil’s lasting accomplishments in these areas from a first hand approach, ending in Eastern Texas. Many of his monuments still exist. Although he did not physically help build all of the beautiful edifices that stand today, he directed the foundations for all of them. However, some that he did establish still stand after 300 years. This unique book contains many pictures in order to let the reader see where he walked, what he saw and where he lived. Margil came from Spain to America in 1698 for the purpose of saving the souls of the natives. Some have estimated that not wishing to ride the back of animals he walked eighty thousand miles in all these areas. He lived at Querétaro and Zacatecas, Mexico; Antigua, Guatemala; at Cartago and in the jungles of Costa Rica: Nacogdoches, San Antonio and near present San Augustine, Texas and at Los Adaes near present Robeline, Louisiana. The Arthur traveled to all these places doing this research—there is no other book like it. To this day, his work has greatly influenced all these areas including East Texas. He is now listed as one of the founding fathers of Texas and is in line for sainthood. It took four years of traveling and writing to produce this book. This book contains many pictures of beautiful churches and schools that he founded and pictures of Indians in the rough mountainous terrain that he traveled.
