Historical Cookbooks

The mission of Texas Historical Press is to present the beginning of Texas. We specialize in its very earliest days. European Texas was begun in far Eastern Texas beginning near the Neches River and traveling eastward into Present Louisiana to a point about 16 miles west of Nachitoches at a small stream called Rio Hondo—this portion of present Louisiana was part of Spanish East Texas and was the home of the first capital of Texas.

Spaniards were the first Europeans to settle all this area and were the first true, native born Texans. There decendents are still there. Aside from the indigineous Caddoan Indians early pioneers included blacks (who were among the very first), Mexicans, Anglo's, Germans and assorted others. The history of a people can be studied through their foods—what they harvested from the wild, planted, ate and how they prepared their foods. Our authentic historical cookbooks that are offered by Texas Historical Press are designed to study the races that inhabited East Texas. These are sought after by collectors from all over the United States. They make outstanding gifts.
